About

At The Oaks Classical Cottage School, children’s academic development and spiritual discipleship are our primary focus. We pursue classical education with the heart and mind, affirming that hard work, service, and a love for God develop virtue.

We invite you to learn more about our school and the classical education movement. At The Oaks, we labor together to raise the next generation for the glory of God.

What is a classical school?

The study of Latin in the grammar school years develops students’ minds as no other subjects can. Students who have learned how to learn Latin become better students in all other subjects. Studying classical languages and the Greek/Roman classics provides a path to wisdom and knowledge that cannot be attained by any other method.

In the tradition of Western civilization, education and classical education have always been synonymous. Classical education can be distinguished from modern education, in that it does not neglect the important first step is giving students the classical tools for intellectual development and understanding their classical Christian heritage.

Why a 3-day school week?

Cottage schools are schools that meet less than five days a week. This model efficiently uses classroom time during school hours, enables parental involvement in the student’s education, and maximizes the family’s role in shaping the child’s faith and character.

Professional teachers provide academic instruction in core academic subjects three school days a week. Students complete the balance of the work on the two home days. Parental engagement varies depending on the age of the student. The Oaks encourages every family to set aside a daily “quiet” hour devoted exclusively to reading.

Parents prioritize time at home for reading, homework, and other educational pursuits.

F.A.Q.

New families can navigate to our admissions page and begin the admissions process. Families are asked to attend Discover the Oaks Open House before completing an application. There is a non-refundable application fee of $125 per family. A pastoral reference and teacher reference are also required. Once the application is approved, student testing and a family interview are scheduled. Upon acceptance, families complete an enrollment form and pay $300 per student fee.

Tuition covers instruction from our professional faculty, classroom costs, and record keeping. Parents are responsible for purchasing consumable texts, literature books, and science lab materials. The school purchases books and assesses parents a book fee for each student.

Parents may opt to pay tuition monthly, quarterly, or annually.

The Oaks is eligible to accept funds allocated by the CHOOSE Act.

All students wear school t-shirts/hoodies/sweatshirts purchased through the cottage school. Khaki or navy uniform pants/skirts/shorts are purchased at parent’s store of choice.

The school maintains attendance and academic records. Teachers grade assignments and prepare semester grade reports. The Oaks provides transcripts and grants diplomas.

Statement of Faith

The Oaks’ Statement of Faith governs what we uphold and teach. The school adheres to traditional Christian morality and the Bible as the divinely inspired word of God. Parents, faculty, administration, and board members agree to the statement of faith annually.

The Scriptures

The 66 books of the Old and New Testaments are God’s written revelation to man. They are verbally inspired and inerrant in the original documents and are the only infallible rule of saving knowledge, faith, and practice.

There is one God, the Maker, Preserver, and Ruler of all things, who is revealed to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each having distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. He is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient and from eternity past decrees or permits all things that come to pass and perpetually upholds, directs, and governs all creation and events yet so as not to destroy the free will and responsibility of His creatures

Jesus Christ, who is eternally God, became fully man through the virgin birth yet remained fully God, lived a sinless life, purchased our redemption through his substitutionary death, was bodily raised on the third day, and ascended to the right hand of God, where He now makes intercession for His own until His return in power and glory.

The Holy Spirit, who is eternally God, indwells those born again and empowers them to live lives of holiness, and seals them unto the day of redemption.

Salvation is achieved exclusively by the grace of God through faith apart from any work or human merit.

On matters of doctrine not explicitly outlined in these twelve points, The Oaks Classical Cottage School respects and acknowledges the role of the family and the local church in formulating secondary doctrine. Click here to read our full statement of faith.
